Mr. Joo & Soju
January 30, 2007
Mr. Joo is 3rd dan (degree) black belt in Hapkido who
studies at the same dojang as me. He's also a popular
radio
announcer in Daegu. He and I have quickly become friends.
I think it's because we both enjoy Hapkido and we are both
performers. He's invited me out for soju once before (see
Soju Bomb) and invited me out
again tonight. Last time I was drunk for over 24 hours so I
decided to take it easy tonight.
One good thing about meeting him is he understands a
little English. When he's showing me Hapkido moves, I can
understand them better. He also says that I learn quickly and
have a good understanding of Hapkido, so that's cool. Another
awesome thing is, since he's a local celebrity, he has contacts that
could possibly turn into some type of acting work for me.
I recently prepared a packet of info for him that
included my headshot, 3 sample photos, and my current demo reel.
I figured it would show some of my range and it included quite a bit
of comedy too. I see lots of comedy shows on Korean TV, so
maybe something could happen. Even if nothing happens, it was
still tons of fun preparing the packet and getting it to him.
Part of your job as an actor is preparing numerous packets like this
and doing tons of auditions until one of them hits. So it was
fun for me.
I also prepared another packet that will be delivered
(via Jin's sister's
husband) to a famous Korean comedy duo called "Cul Too."
Or maybe it translates into "Cul Two?" I'm not sure really.
In Korean, it's 컬투. I met them at Jin's
sister's wedding (see
here). They also have a talent management company in Seoul
called Cult Entertainment.
I'm feverously missing acting in LA, so I would love to do some type
of acting work in Korea before I leave. I've done one picture
shoot and a short video shoot so far, for the college I worked at
(see Super Star!), but it
would be super cool to do some actual acting.
Wish me luck (or "break a leg" in actor lingo).
What I learned today about Korea: 1) I have 348 chins.
