Pizza Hut English
December 21,
2005
I went to Pizza Hut today with Pricilla and a few of
her English students. She's one of the people that I've been
helping with her English. We enjoyed pizza and they all really
dug the salad bar. She kept wanting me to have salad, but I
told her it was called "Pizza" Hut and not "Salad" Hut. During
chow the wait staff came over and began to sing me happy birthday
and lit candles on a plastic pizza. She told them it was my
birthday. My birthday was October 16th, so they were only 2
months & 5 days late. And from the candles in the picture, the
big ones normally mean "10" and the small ones mean "1." So
she told them I was 43!? Damnit, I'm only 37. Of course,
in Korea they count one year in the belly, so you're one year older
over here. So here, I'm 38. When I go back to Los
Angeles, not only will I go back in time for the time zone, I'll
loose a year of age! I wonder if I just traveled back & forth
a few times if I could shave off a few more years?
After eating she spread out a large map of U.S.A. and
had me talk about a few of the states. It dawned on me then,
that I've visited quite a few of the states. They also wanted
me to say each of the state's names so they could repeat it after
me. At first I pronounced Arkansas like Ark-"Kansas" instead
of Ark-"Kensaw." Then I said, "Wait a minute. That's how
some people say it incorrectly. The proper way to say it is
Ark-"Kensaw." Good save on my part...I'm a freaking genius.
What I learned
today about Korea: 1) How to correctly say Arkansas.
