Traditional Korean music.
Parents and their children after the show. Americans thrown in as background!
Traditional Korean music.
I'm ticked that I didn't bring my camera with me
today. (Edit - Sunja's husband had his camera
and I got some pictures from him.) Sunja invited me to what I thought was going to be just
a few elementary school rock bands and an orchestra performance that
one of her friend's daughters was in. It turned out to be
hundreds & hundreds of elementary school children doing an amazing
day of performing. They did all types of things like classical
music, rock & roll songs, traditional Thai dancing, tradition Korean
drum line, traditional Korean dancing girls, ballet, numerous dances
ranging from hip hop to cheerleading, and even a short musical.
Let me tell you, you haven't lived until you've seen a 5th grade
Korean rock band sing "I Love Rock & Roll, put another dime in the
jukebox baby" with a cute Korean accent or a choir of Korean school
mothers sing "Come On Get Happy."
We then went out for some yummy Chinese food,
followed by a few drinks at a brewery type bar that served small
side dishes (remember - Koreans always eat when they drink).
The had a house band there that sang everything from Latin to hip
hop...even an Eminem rap. There was a small dance floor (I
love to dance if you didn't know that) and one of the American
ladies with us wanted to dance. So off we went! On the
way I plucked a plastic rose from a vase and placed it behind my
ear. Isn't that what they always do in the movies? We
danced a while and went back and forth from our seats to the dance
floor a few times. The Koreans are VERY shy people and seemed
to really enjoy watching two Americans dancing.
"Dancing...Dancing...Dancing! Dancing Machine!"
Me and Sunja's husband (Adam is his English name).
The men and women join in!
"Dancing...Dancing...Dancing! Dancing Machine!"
As the night began to close for us, we had the small
dance floor full of Korean men and a few women dancing with us.
I did my best to show them some basic side step moves and, of
course, threw in a little "smack that ass" dancing to give them
something to inspire to one day. One of the trips back to my
seat, a Korean girl came over and asked for my autograph.
So...my plan of total world domination has begun. I now have 1
Korean fan! Only 999,999,999 to go till I have a million
Korean fans....man...I've got a lot more dancing to do.
What I learned
today about Korea: 1) Starrlite says the Korean word for
fried chicken is "fried chicken." WOOT! I know
more Korean!
