Acupuncture
February 14, 2006

Today I went to see a friend's art opening and afterwards had lunch with the gang.  The artwork was very nice but the restaurant had Korean style seating (on the floor with tiny tables) which most places do.  Sitting on the floor with my legs outstretched under the small table is quite uncomfortable, but I try to move my legs around and switch positions once they fall asleep or feel stiff.  As I stood up after the meal, I felt a sharp pain in my back.  My huge belly often makes my back hurt daily and if I wasn't so lazy, I could do something about it.  But that's the secret of being lazy...not doing anything about it!

I was in a lot of pain, so Jin took me to an Oriental doctor who used acupuncture.  What did you do on your Valentine's Day?  It was my first time having acupuncture and it was quite interesting.  The pain subsided slightly, but my back is still killing me.  He suggested that I soak in a hot bath (that's the bathwater sound in the background now...oh wait, that's just here...never mind) and to not eat chicken or duck or garlic that wasn't cooked.  Apparently, Oriental medicine believes that the foods you eat directly affect the way you feel.  He suggested that I stay away from those foods because they weren't good for the "type" of person I am.  He also took very close up pictures via a computer and eye camera of my eyes.  The eyes can tell how you feel and your condition.  He said that I was stressed and that I need to rest.  He also said that I had good manners and was sensitive.  HA!  Take that girls!

What I learned today about Korea:  1)  I always knew the eyes told a lot about a person...now I really know!
