June 09, 2009 - Here are pictures from my Los Angeles City College Graduation!

Dream Chasing Speech

June 05, 2009 - Here are pictures from the LACC Transfer Center "Transferring Student Transition Recognition Reception."  It was a time to recognize the students who were transferring to four year schools from Los Angeles City College.  I was honored to be asked to give a speech about my story and going to school later in life.  I talked about how important it was to get support from school resources, friends, and family.  I had written a two page speech, but didn't refer to it that much.  I tried to speak mainly from the heart.  I think I ended up covering most of what I wrote.  You can click here to read the speech.

May 27, 2009 - Apparently, the USC School of Cinematic Arts is crazy. Bad news for them, good news for me. They have accepted me as a transfer student for the fall 2009 semester!  That's right...I have been ACCEPTED into the best film school in the world into their Film Production (directing) program! And now...the fun begins...

May 22, 2009 - Here are a few pictures of our most recent Phi Theta Kappa Induction Ceremony.  We inducted 113 new members!  As a symbol of thanks for my contribution as President of the Phi Theta Kappa Chapter, I was honored to receive a U.S. Mint Commemorative Coin from Dr. Eckford.

April 28, 2009 - Today was the Dean's Honor Ceremony where I was happy to be on the Dean's Honors List for Spring 2008 and Fall 2008.  Because of being on the Dean's List for three consecutive semesters, I was placed on the President's List!  Yeah!  Above are pictures that Anmol and I took.  You'll see pictures of us and also a few pictures of fellow Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society students.

April 24, 2009 - Today I went on a trip with numerous Korean Language and Humanities students to the Los Angeles Korean Cultural Center.  It's an awesome place to visit to learn many things about Korea.  Afterwards, we enjoyed some yummy food at a Korean restaurant.  It was fun for all!

The Louise Johnson Fitzgerald Story

The daughter of William Henry Snyder, the first president of Los Angeles City College, established this scholarship in 1994.  It is her wish that the scholarship be made available, but not is limited to, re-entry and older students. Awards will be given based upon a combination of financial need and potential in the student’s major.

Louise Snyder Johnson Fitzgerald was born December 31, 1900 in Worcester; Mass. She died August 21, 1993 in Long Beach, California. Louise was the daughter of William H. Snyder and Emma Abbott Morrill.

She attended graduated from Hollywood High School, received her B.A. at the University of Arizona, M.A. at Stanford, and her PhD at NYU (New York University).

Louise taught at Rutgers University, Los Angeles City College and Harbor College. Louise wanted to help students get started at a two-year college. She admired strength and determination and she wanted students to have goals.

Her wartime services included one Douglas Aircraft, and one Bell Aircraft.

Louise Snyder Johnson Fitzgerald wrote 2 books: Inside Your Mind and Personality and Adjustment.

April 24, 2009 - I received a letter from the LACC Foundation stating that I will be awarded the Louise Snyder Johnson Fitzgerald Scholarship on April 29th.  Yeah for free money for school!

April 07, 2009 - I visited San Francisco and saw the incredible Golden Gate Bridge, the eerie Alcatraz, and rode a treacherous cable car down a narrow San Franciscan street.  Check out Eric's site to see more pictures from our trip to Stanford and Berkeley.

March 17, 2009 - Last night I went to the Studio City Branch Library as part of their Distinguished Speaker Series where my Film Directing Professor, Dr. Bruce Cook, was speaking and signing his books.  He was joined by another author, Robert Fate.  It was a very interesting night and it was great to hear about their books.  See below for info on their novels.

Beta Pi Kappa Meeting

Directing a scene from "Doubt"

March 06, 2009 - Today was a busy day.  First I had a Beta Pi Kappa Chapter meeting and then I rehearsed a scene from "Doubt" with Martin and Sarah.  I'm directing a scene for class and having a great time!

March 05, 2009 - Today was an awesome day!  As a member of the USC SCholar's Program, I attended "Visit SC: A Day in the Life of a Trojan."  We took part in numerous informative workshops, toured around the campus, sat in on a real class, enjoyed free meals, and attended a USC basketball game!

Plain & Simple

February 28, 2009 - I finally saw "Plain and Simple!"  It was great.  It's an animated film that started shooting on September 12, 2001 in Chicago.  Yep...that September 12.  It was a tough day, but we all pulled together and did our best.  It took Jose and Merrin a long time to get this off the ground because they could only work on this project part time and it took forever to draw and render in HD!

I really enjoyed the film.  Everyone did a great job and the animation was awesome.  The look and feel of the film was very unique and I loved all of the bird characters.  They each had their own bits, and they were great.  The screening was at Raleigh Studios for the 14th Annual International Family Film Festival.  It was pretty cool, because it was right across the street from Paramount.

I hope you get a chance to see the movie somewhere one day!  Click here to see clips, pictures, a trailer, etc.

See below for a couple of journal entries about the shoot (which you can also find under 2001):

Merrin Trantum (writer/director) giving direction to Deborah and me.

Well...sniff...sniff...the "Plain and Simple" shoot ended today.  I've never been so damn sad after any type of production.  I absolutely loved doing this film.  The Director and crew were awesome and the actress (Deborah Leydig) playing my evil wife was perfect!  I think we had a great rapport.

I had so much fun shooting this film.  It was a great learning experience working with the blue screen and props and I'm sure I'll work with these guys again one day.  I can not wait to see the finished product!

Here's a shot of the whole blue screen set.

9/12/01

Today was the beginning of shooting for "Plain and Simple."  It was actually really freaky.  I was doing something that brings me much joy while America was going through an unbelievable tragedy.  We didn't even talk about what was going on outside of the set.  We just kept on going and trying not to freak ourselves or each other out.  It wasn't too easy to play this happy loveable character, but it was nothing compared to what others were enduring at the same exact time.

February 27, 2009 - I found out today that "Plain and Simple" (an animated film where I played one of the few live characters) will be screening at the 14th Annual International Family Film Festival on Saturday, February 28, at 12:30pm.  I'll be going and I hope to see you there!  Here's more info:

February 22, 2009 - Today was Todd and Mo's (Double Take Entertainment) shoot for "Who Would You?"  It was an awesome shoot, I learned a lot, and I had a lot of fun!  You can see some pictures from the shoot above.  A lot of them are fuzzy and out of focus (blame Anmol), but there are a few good ones in there.

The pictures below were taken by Mo:

Localization of Kidney stone pain

February 13, 2009 - I woke up at about 4:30am this morning with the greatest freaking pain I've EVER felt!  I felt like an eighteen wheeler truck had driven through my bedroom window and decided to park itself on my left testicle.  I also had severe pain on my left side and lower back.  My good buddy Pish was awesome enough to drive me to the VA hospital where I writhed and scream in pain for a couple of hours while no one helped me.  Eventually, a doctor saw me and said that I probably have a kidney stone.  After a cat-scan, it turns out that I do.

He said I have a kidney stone that's about 3mm big and that I need to "pass" it, which means pee it out!  He also said that the pain will be so significant that many say it feels like childbirth...oh boy!

February 08, 2009 - My good buddies Todd & Mo and their production company (Double Take Entertainment) are shooting another project and I'm going to help them out on the crew.  Here are a few pictures of a production meeting for "Who Would You?"

See a trailer featuring the cast of "Dynamite Swine"

January 28, 2009 - I found out today that a film I had a small part in called "Dynamite Swine" might actually come out this year!  This might not sound like a big deal, but it really is because I think they starting shooting back in 2004!  They shot off and on for a few years and have been in post production ever since.  I can't wait to see it!

They recently listed "Dynamite Swine" on IMDb here: www.imdb.com/title/tt1362210/

You can also see more clips and pictures on MySpace here: www.myspace.com/dynamiteswine

Part of my application was to send in two writing samples.  One needed to be a description of a unique "Original Character" and the other needed to be a description of a true "Intense Emotional Moment."  See below links to .pdf files if you would like to see what I wrote for my application.

Original Character

Intense Emotional Moment

January 20, 2009 - Today was a big day for me.  To get into the film program at USC, not only do you have to submit an application and numerous other things to USC, you must also submit supplemental materials to the film school side of USC.  So both sides have to accept you if you want to get in!

Today I put the final piece of the puzzle in the mail.  I'm completely done with all of my application materials and now I just wait!  I should know something in June.  Wish me luck!

January 14, 2009 - I took another tour of the USC School of Cinematic Arts today, but this time I got a glimpse of the new building.  It was amazing!  I think if I get to go there one day I'll pass out with glee each and every day.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program honors excellence by supporting outstanding community college students with financial need as they transfer to and complete their bachelor’s degrees at the nation’s top four-year colleges and universities. The Foundation selects up to 50 community college transfer students each year and awards each scholar up to $30,000 annually.

January 12, 2009 - Good news!  Today I found out that I have been nominated for the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program!  It would be great to get, because it's the biggest scholarship awarded to two-year students who are transferring to a four-year school and USC is expensive!

January 01, 2009 - Happy New Year!  I hope you have a wonderful 2009.  This should be quite a year for me.  I'll graduate in June from Los Angeles City College with my AA in Cinema Production and my next goal is to transfer to USC into the Film Production Program.  It's very difficult to get into that program, so wish me luck!

In other good news, IMDb has started a new service where you can view films attached to their pages.  See the links above to check out "Hungry" and "The Smelly Janitor" on IMDb.
