Daegu - Day 3
September 24,
2005
Farmer's market with "real" farmers.
My apartment building and a mountain in the distance.
Farmer's market with "real" farmers.
I woke up again pretty early and went for a walk.
This time I went right. Once again, tons of shops and
restaurants. This side of my hood is much like the other side.
I found more small grocery stores and a dry cleaners! I took
in some shirts that got wrinkled from the flight. When I
walked in I handed the guy my stuff and he said "Dry Clean?" and I
said yes with a big smile. I thought that communicating what I
wanted would be much more difficult than that. I motioned with
my hands asking him when would it be ready. The lady with him
pointed to the calendar and September 26th. I thought it
seemed like far away, but then I realized that I'm in the future now
and the time zone is different and the 26th is just a few days away.
He gave me a receipt and I was on my way. I think I can make
out that the shirts will cost about 3,000 won a piece. That's
a hair under $3.00. Not too shabby.
I continued my discovery walk and found what
looked like a little farmer's market. It was still early (I
don't think Koreans start doing much till 8:00am) so not too many
booths were full. I found a big peach and bought it for 1200
won. Seemed pricey, but apparently this was a special big
peach and peaches are expensive here. It was pretty amazing
and really sweet. I slurped my big sweet peach and walked back
home making a mess.
What I learned
today about Korea: 1) Peaches
ain't cheap.
